Places in Hell

A Starbucks coffee cup is not really the place you want to look at when searching for speech ideas, Mrs. Palin. But if you insist on using a quotation from a coffee cup , please at least get the quote correct.

Saturday, at a rally in California, Sara Palin quoted Madeline Albright as saying, “There’s a place in Hell reserved for women who don’t support other women.” Problem is: Mrs. Albright didn’t say that. What she said was, “There is a place in Hell reserved for women who don’t help other women.”

Seeming to know that this may be controversial, Palin went on to say, “Thank you for receiving that so well….And now, California, let’s see what a comment like I just made, how that is turned into whatever it’ll be turned into tomorrow with the newspaper.”

When asked about being quoted incorrectly, Madeline Albright said she was flattered but was not referring to politics when she made that statement. She went on further to say that this was another example of McCain/Palin stretching the truth for their own gain.
