Mike, welcome. I do understand what you are saying. That, however, does not make it any better. Many people are responsible for what happened yesterday but this terrorist is the primary person responsible. A little common sense can go a long way.

He probably thought that no one would ever have to pay taxes again. Even though it was just a single IRS building

I wouldn't attempt to justify the actions of this man. He was wrong. However, I understand his frustration. It only takes a bit of mental illness to cause that frustration to fester and draw to a head of mental puss. Having burned past careful and rational thought, the rage seeks a target. The monolith called the IRS keyed something in the breakdown, and a plan eventually formed.

He was attacking a monster when he did what he did. He no longer saw it as individuals like himself doing a job. "The Government" was not simply an abstract concept to be viewed rationally. It was an evil beast that threatened and needed to be destroyed.

He didn't even have to be particularly off. A protracted depressive state fueled by self-medication could unbalance a mind sufficiently. I am of course projecting from my own experience and observations made over twenty years as a correctional officer. I have been to the edge a few times, myself.

What is the thought process that must go through these idiots' heads?

Did he think if he crashed the building, he wouldn't have to pay his taxes?
WTF?
